The Blue Curiosa rose was one of the original lilac roses to come onto the wholesale
flower markets. Blue Curiosa Roses are often referred to as 'blue' roses - there is no such thing as a natural blue
rose as they don't have the genetic makeup to produce blue petals. The only way to achieve a blue rose is to dye
them with cut flower spray paint or dip dye. Like any other lilac rose their meaning is love at first sight -
Romantic eh? This is why Blue Curiosa roses are a big favourite for wedding flowers. The Dutch grown Blue
Curiosa are not a big headed rose though. They can be described as a medium headed rose and usually have 60cm
stem lengths. Many are imported from Ecuador and Colombia these days - these have much larger flower heads with a
bigger petal count because they are grown at high altitude. Used on their own, they can seem insipid, but clustered
together in bridal bouquets, arrangements and venue decoration they look stunning. Mixed with country garden
flowers like hydrangea, eustoma and larkspur really works well if an old fashioned vintage theme is
required.
These days Blue Curiosa Roses are available all year round but their main use is definitely for
weddings. Other lilac roses like cool water, pacific blue and amnesia tone superbly with Blue Curiosa Roses. They
are a great favourite of florists and floral designers because of their reliability and track record. Blue Curiosa
always open fully and look terrific! If you are looking for a lilac rose we couldn't recommend Blue Curiosa more if
we tried.
